Why am I involved with New Roots? Bob Callaghan, one of the founders and editors of New Roots speaks about why he is involved. He speaks of two main reasons for helping to set up New Roots.
Principally – it has arisen out of a sense of wanting to grow in Christian discipleship, but finding that being part of a church doesn’t always seems to help with that! Churches are great – but don’t often seem to be geared up with helping people with the whole discipleship thing. Not true in all churches I know, and I don’t want to criticise what churches are up to. So I often find myself looking around for tools to help me grow. Many of the resources that I find I use these days are on-line – so New Roots is a place where we can go to explore faith in a way that touches the soul.
I have a secondary reason for being involved, which stems from working as National Coordinator with Inclusive Church. In this work I come across many who feel cut off from church for a number of reasons. For some it may be through disability or mental health issues. For others it is because of the way that the church makes them to feel unwanted because they are LGBTI. At Inclusive Church we are pleased to support New Roots as a resource that we hope will enable people to hang on to faith in spite of the church!
