Rach’s Reflections – So That

One thing always leads to another. Rach ponders causes and effects.

Behind the scenes at SCM at the moment we are trying to work out who or what we are. Don’t worry, we are not going to stop being a movement of Christian students that care about deepening faith and putting that faith into action in diverse and inclusive communities! What we are trying to do is make sure that we are doing that, and we’ll be consulting with the movement over the next few months too. We often think about who we are and what we are going to do because of who we are. What if we turn it around and look at what we do so that we can be who we want to be?

Doing so that we can be.

One example might be producing the superb editions of Movement magazine (latest edition arriving on your doormats later this month!) because as a membership organisation we should produce a magazine. When we discuss Movement as a project though, we are always clear that we produce each issue so that students, and others in the SCM community, can be people with a deeper and strengthened faith. For me, at SCM the so that always leads to students.

It has got me wondering what I, as both the North West Regional Development Worker but also just as an individual, want to do so that I can be a better me. How I spend my time, how I act with my colleagues and friends, how all that I do comes together so that I can be a great Regional Worker, friend, ally and person.

At the end of the day it comes down to who we are, as individuals and together as SCM. Once we know who we are, then all we have to work out is what to do, so that we can be.

I wonder what is your focus on doing? How does that show who you wish to be?
