SCM at Big Church Day Out
There’s not long to go now until SCM will be exhibiting at one of the biggest live music weekends in the Christian Calendar, the Big Church Day Out. Rob, our SCM Connect Project Worker, along with two SCM volunteers, will be heading down South to Wiston House in West Sussex then back up the following week to Capesthorne Hall in Cheshire. We’ll be joining a whole bunch of other organisations in the Bazaar, giving out goody bags and telling everyone about SCM and our work.
If you’re not familiar with the Big Church Day Out here is a bit of a break down; it’s the UK’s largest annual gathering of the wider church that creates a space for all denominations and ages to gather each year for two days of worship and celebration. Whack in a few tents and a couple of stages there you go, that’s BCDO. This year BCDO South is celebrating its 10th year, and there is a crowd of 40,000 expected to attend across both weekends, so there will certainly be many opportunities to chat with people about the amazing work of SCM.
In the Bazaar we will be looking to chat with Students, Churches, Chaplaincies, Sixth-Form/College students and anyone else that pops by our stall. If you’re going to the event we would love to talk to you about what we can do to support you if you are a student or soon-to-be student, and why you should sign up as an SCM member. If you’re representing a church or chaplaincy, ask us about becoming a Link Church or Chaplaincy and the support we can offer to you.
We will be giving away ‘freshers packs’ including our Going to Uni guide to students heading to uni in September as well as ‘Welcoming Students to Your Church’ packs to Churches. We also plan on organising a little impromptu meet up for students and members at some point over the weekend to meet up and chat, because one of the best things about being in the movement is finding like-minded searching and journeying Christian students from all over the UK.
You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram to see what we get up to over the weekend and to find out more about the meet-up for students and young people. So, do come by the stall and say ‘Hi!’, it will be great to see you!
