Are you a college-bound high school student in California with an interest in free speech, science, and the separation of church and state? If so, the California Freethought Day Speech Scholarship may be a great opportunity for you! Each year, the scholarship awards $1,000 to one (1) applicant who submits the best 300-500-word essay following this prompt: “Pretend that you’ve been invited to speak in front of the United States Congress. Write a 300–500-word speech to convey your ideas on how we can protect our democracy from becoming a theocracy and unite our country against religious bigotry.” If you’re a Californian high schooler who believes in the importance of free speech, science, and secularism, we encourage you to apply! Any high school senior or four-year undergraduate student who is pursuing law or public services, such as teaching, may apply for this scholarship opportunity.

Project Pull provides paid summer internships for motivated high school students in the Bay Area who have an interest in working within the public sector. Students will engage in community service while learning teamwork, creativity, leadership, and communications skills.

Applications are usually due in February (specific dates may vary by year).
